“Having seen Sarah, quite expertly, deal with the special needs of my daughter's dyslexia, we were thrilled to see her extend and challenge my son. The sessions were hugely varied but always interesting and engaging.”
SEN Specialist, SELECTIVE ENTRANCE & SUPPORT TUTOR
I have a deep understanding of the needs of children with sensory challenges; focus and attention difficulties; anxiety and social/communication issues, as well Dyslexia. I relate to children as unique individuals, all with the potential to learn and thrive.
After graduating as an Occupational Therapist (OT), I quickly progressed to become a Senior Practitioner and Care Coordinator, working in mental health with vulnerable adults and managing a wide range of complex needs. Later, I took a career break to focus on the needs of my young family and during this time, I successfully coached my eldest son for the 11+ exam, resulting in offers from two Sutton grammar schools.
I enjoyed the experience and was called upon to offer the same guidance to children of local acquaintances. Soon, I found I was in demand for my imaginative, creative and performance-enhancing English tuition.
My classes are sought after because my OT training, combined with a lifelong love of literature, allows me to offer a uniquely versatile and holistic approach when coaching children of all levels to reach their goals.
I have previously combined private tutoring with working in the primary school setting, when I accepted a role supporting students with a variety of SpLD and SEND needs. I now focus exclusively on my private clients.
My classes boost self-esteem and confidence because…
they are creative and playful in nature with emphasis on building skills in a low-stress environment
promote a love of reading and language through the use of high quality texts – reading, listening and speaking being vital in developing confidence as a writer
they are collaborative, supporting the child and family to set and prioritise goals – continually reviewing these and examining the outcomes
use a variety of bespoke, often multi-sensory strategies to gain rapport and trust alongside academic achievement.
